Rising toward the Blue Ridge Mountains, Northeast Georgia is an area of great natural beauty where attractions are numerous and recreational opportunities are abundant. It is an area of small mountain villages, vast forests, vineyards, farms, streams, waterfalls and lakes.

The area's largest town, Athens, sits south of the mountains and is home to the University of Georgia and a thriving cultural center. Gainesville, the area's second largest town at the banks of Lake Lanier is a popular getaway destination for Georgia residents.

Up in the mountains the 'Bavarian Alpine village' of Helen and small towns like Hiawassee, Young Harris, Blairsville, Clayton, Mountain City and Dillard offer visitors to experience southern hospitality at its best.

Georgia's well developed state park system, where dammed rivers have formed lakes, offer fishing, canoeing, and kayaking opportunities as well as numerous well taken care of campsites.
